As part of our Ramadan spotlight series on grassroots organisations, we are highlighting the Karim Foundation’s 2026 Cambridge Ramadan Appeal.
Each Ramadan, the Foundation mobilises local giving to provide food and fuel support to residents experiencing financial hardship across Cambridge and neighbouring towns. Since 2021, the appeal has delivered essential assistance to families, refugees and asylum seekers at moments of real crisis.
This year, their campaign is dedicated to supporting vulnerable women in and around Cambridge, including single mothers, survivors of domestic abuse, migrant women and those at risk of homelessness.
Funds raised during Ramadan will provide emergency food and fuel support, alongside practical assistance to help women regain stability and dignity. For many, this support comes at a point where the choice is between rent, heating or feeding their children.
This is what Ramadan generosity looks like at street level. It is local, immediate and rooted in responsibility to one another.
At a time when public discourse can feel increasingly fragmented and hostile, grassroots organisations like the Karim Foundation play a critical civic role. They strengthen social cohesion quietly and consistently. They respond early, before hardship deepens into long-term crisis. They translate faith-driven generosity into tangible community resilience.
